Mission: Episode 1 - Saying Goodbye
Location: USS Athena
Timeline: Mission Day 3 at 0400

“You’ll wait here for the Captain,” the security officer instructed.

Rayna, as she was called, had opted to arrive via a small shuttle versus beaming aboard the Athena. She’d had a suspicion that she would receive a welcome much like this, and a shuttle would make it significantly less irritating should she have to leave.

Reyna walked to a small cargo container. Smoothing out her simple sun-dress under her legs, she sat down, wearing a beatific smile on her face.

“Cute. I will remind you, that I was asked to be here, on behalf of...well, presumably someone in your admiralty. My name and billet is in your ship’s manifest. Moreover, several of my people will be joining your crew, and in fact, will be arriving shortly.”

Looking up at the man, she continued, “and not to put too fine a point on it my dear, but if I wanted to get past everyone in this shuttlebay, it would hardly be a challenge. But in the interest of us all playing well together, and being charitable, I’ll sit here, and go over the data I was given. Now, run along and call your Captain.”

The man tapped his combadge, and said, “Euuuh, Captain Mar, to Shuttlebay One please. Immediately.”

If there was one thing Neema didn't like it was being summoned, certainly not as she was enjoying her first good night's rest in a long time. As she tapped her combadge she would audibly sigh. "This better be important, on my way" She said as she forced herself to get out of bed.

"Computer, lights on" She instructed before moving to replace her nightgown with a uniform. After about another 10 minutes, making the total closer to 20 she arrived in Shuttlebay One and walked to what presumably was the Officer who had summoned her and her newest Mission Adviser. "What is the problem, Ensign?"

“Sir, the Borg have been classified as dangerous in all of our training and reference material, whether or not they’re liberated. Given the nature of the potential threat, regulations state the Commanding Officer is to be notified and personally accept or decline their embarkation.” The man was clearly more than a little nervous.

Rayna, to her credit, chuckled softly under her breath, and continued to read from her PADD, mumbling, “Yes certainly incredibly dangerous sitting here in a dress reading Dickens.”

"Ensign, half this ship is made out of parts those people gave us the technology for. The Fleet Admiral has welcomed the liberated Borg into the Galactic Federation. Do you think she made a mistake? If they are on the roster they get entry. Is that clear?" Neema said, making it obvious any answer but yes was going to result in consequences.

“Yes sir,” the man replied, making a quick job of going about doing something else in the shuttlebay.

With that sorted out she turned to the woman. "Now you must be Rayna" Neema said. "Captain Neema Mar" she continued while extending her hand.

Rayna stood, and shook the woman’s hand. “I am Rayna, voice of the Liberated. It’s a great pleasure to meet you, Captain. My people and I are excited for the opportunity to assist in your grand venture. I’m personally hoping that as we make inroads, we’ll be able to show our value to the Galactic Federation.”

Lowering her voice, she continued in an old literary tense of the Betazoid Language, ”And hopefully assuage the fears of the more skeptical of your crew, like our erstwhile shuttlebay manager.”

Neema smiled. "In my view you have little left to prove, but I appreciate that anyway. I take it you have been briefed by the Fleet Admiral on the purpose of our mission and why it required someone as important as yourself?" She replied.

“Her liaison, but yes,” Rayna replied. “I’m honored that I was asked to handpick a small contingent of Liberated to join the Fleet on this...daunting task. I have no illusions that it will be an easy one, but I firmly agree with the Fleet Admiral, that it is a necessary one.”

"Perfect, I look forward to meeting the rest of the detachment you have picked. Now I must confess some ignorance about your current status here. Do you still use alcoves or do you use regular quarters? In case of the latter I can give you the directions. For the former I fear you will have to check a map" Neema said.

“Some of us will require alcoves. I myself do not. Luckily, I was connected with your quartermaster, so my understanding is that all the necessary arrangements have been made already. My understanding is that the alcoves have been installed in one of the secondary cargo bays.”

Neema nodded. "Good to hear, many in the crew are probably going to make you uncomfortable as it is. The least we can do is make sure the sleeping arrangements are comfortable"
